Awake (10th Anniversary Edition)

Some music seems to know exactly what a room needs.

Awake is one of those rare albums that can move effortlessly between foreground and background without losing its character. Put it on while working and concentration seems to sharpen. Play it among friends and it settles naturally into the conversation. Turn it up and there are moments when sitting still suddenly becomes difficult. Wherever it finds itself, Awake seems to belong.

That adaptability comes from an extraordinary balance of electronic textures, guitar, bass and live percussion. The music is intricate without feeling complicated, energetic without becoming restless. When the drums arrive on “See,” for instance, something seems to switch on—not only in the music, but in the listener.

For us, Awake has long been a catalyst for creative flow. There is a sense of possibility running through it, as though something unexpected might happen while it plays. Its rhythms even seem to suggest the passage of time: gathering energy, moving forward, gradually slowing and making space for everything to begin again.

Perhaps that is why reaching the end so often feels like an invitation to start over.
