Inspired by a planet encircled by a ring, this ingenious Karakuri puzzle box challenges both curiosity and patience. At first, the ring obstructs the lid, preventing it from opening—but no force is required to remove it. The solution lies in clever observation and delicate movement rather than strength.

Originally crafted in 2017, the internal mechanism has since been strengthened for smoother performance and lasting durability. The display stand, now finished in natural beeswax, has been reshaped to better complement the box’s celestial design.

The ring itself is a work of precision: six pieces seamlessly joined from a single board to highlight the natural grain in orbit-like harmony. Viewed directly from the side, the craftsmanship reveals its quiet elegance—a nod to Saturn, whose rings will nearly vanish from sight on March 23, 2025, due to the planet’s tilt and Earth’s position.
