A Designers Eye: Paul Rand

Back by popular demand, a new edition of this photo essay of items from the personal archive of legendary graphic designer Paul Rand. This limited-edition reprint is now available with two cover options, black or red. It offers a rare glimpse into Rand’s world and the designs he collected on his travels. The book also serves as a valuable design reference for aficionados and collectors of packaging and other ephemera.

Author JP Williams, a former student of Rand, writes in the foreword of his relationship with the designer and describes the power objects can hold. Williams writes, “it was not until visiting Mrs. Rand that I discovered Mr. Rand’s cache of items that he had saved from his travels. A large variety of items: packages, shopping bags, dolls, toys. So many were unfamiliar to me. As soon as I saw them I asked then and there if I could have them photographed. I asked the photographer Grant Peterson to shoot all of these items in hopes of doing a book. Well, 18 years later, here it is.”
