In Praise Of Shadows

In In Praise of Shadows, Jun’ichirō Tanizaki reflects on the elegance of subtlety—dim light, worn surfaces, patina, silence, and the poetry found in imperfection. This expanded edition pairs his iconic meditation on Japanese aesthetics with additional essays that deepen the portrait of a disappearing world shaped by restraint, atmosphere, and thoughtful design. Essential reading for anyone drawn to architecture, art, and the beauty of what whispers rather than shouts.
