Overview
Yosegi Coin Box
This traditionally decorated wooden bank makes money disappear. The box slides open to reveal a space for a coin. If you place one down and close the lid, your money will vanish into the mysterious inner chamber of the bank. How do you get it back out again? The secret is explained in the included instructions but that doesn't mean you have to tell anyone else... The top of this coin box represents one thin layer of a traditional Yosegi marquetry pattern featuring at least half a dozen different species of indigenous wood. No paints or dyes were used.
Yosegi is the name of a traditional style of marquetry developed in the Hakone Mountains of Japan. Skilled artisans use slender sticks of various types of wood to create intricate patterns of shapes and colors. The sticks are then glued into logs and paper-thin layers are shaved from the face of the assembly to be used as decoration for puzzles and other wood crafts.
Handmade in Japan.
